BURNING OF THE ROOTS CEREMONY
It's that time of year again…
for our annual gathering when we prepare to release the "old" and make room for the "new" in our lives. To mark the
occasion, as have many of our ancestors before us, we will hold a Burning of the Roots ceremony, and we would
love to have you join us. This ceremony of Celtic origin, generally takes place just after the Full Moon in October
(after Summer has come to a close, the harvest has completed, and everyone is preparing for the internal time of Winter) -
- and just before Samhain.
It is a casual gathering and we will
potluck afterward. Dress warmly, or in layers, as we will be outside near the fire to actually burn our roots for a
good portion of the time. Please bring any roots from your garden or yard that you can burn away, along with your intentions
to release thoughts, situations, patterns, emotions, etc. that you choose not to take into the new year with you. These
"giveaways" can be done silently, or witnessed by the group. Oftentimes, many of us are giving away the same or similar
things, and the group can add the power of presence to your intention. Bring as many roots as you like, and if you cannot
burn them all, somebody else will be able to. We will also have plenty on hand, so that everyone has enough. You
are welcome to bring guests with you - all are welcome in good spirit.
We will potluck (inside!) afterward
and share good food and laughter. There aren't any fees, as this is a ceremony, but gifts of love and spirit are always
welcomed and appreciated. Please do something for potluck, some roots if you can and an open heart. Our dear friend
and "guide" for the evening will be Danny Pharr (some of you may know him from years of Firewalking!).
